Hello All,
It’s almost summer and wrestling camp and workouts are just around the corner.
I plan on working extra hard this summer with the boys to improve their strength and conditioning as well as their wrestling ability. Our workouts and open mats will be three days a week starting June 8th. these workouts will continue until we have fall sign-ups and start into the Lock-in, which will be sometime in October. Lots of time to get better, stronger, and back in shape. I really look forward to spending some time with each of the boys and seeing where they will fit into our lineup and how each of them progresses through the summer.
For all those interested in the June camp, call me or e-mail me so I can give you the details and correct information needed to attend. This camp should be a good one and you should learn a lot.
Some folks were asking if I would post the poem that I read at the banquet on here so they could re-read it. I am not sure it deserves that exposure, but I’ll honor your request.
Here it is:
How was I to know
You could change my life this way.
When I started out
I had no doubt
The price that I would pay.
As time went by
I had to decide
To commit or let it go
Now it’s crunch time
Deep within my mind
And it’s time for you to know.
I know I’m rough
I know I’m hard
Sometime, may seem unfair.
But through those things
It only mean
I truly really care.
Your success is my reward
And I’m eager to smile with pride
To watch you win
Deep within
Theres a tear I fight to hide
Wrestling has been a part of me
Since I was a little boy
It’s in my family,
In my blood
A love I can’t avoid
I love the sport
I love to coach
But often wonder why
But then I look at you each night
and that love I have
I see in your eye
So as I stand before you now
Deep within my heart
I’ve made my choice
To let you know tonight before we part
I choose to continue to share it with you
This I tell you true
I’ll continue to share it with you
And hope one day you’ll share it too….

I love it….this sounds so good….I’m excited and want to help in any way I can. This program has done so much for my son. He is so much more attentive and his grades at school are much better. He feels as though he has a purpose and is a part of something.
I love your coaching style, and agree and support all of your disipline and hard work. Our young boys and men of the future need good role models like you to help them along thier way. I commned you and stand behind this program. It’ is so helpful and is a positive program for all young boys to be involved in.
Thank you so much for your support. I agree with all the above. I’m glad we can help.
My son has wrestled for Coach John since was 11 yrs. old. My son is 17 yrs old and trying to decide which college to attend. He is a captain on the Cavalier Wrestling team and an Eagle Scout. He is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and has been interviewed for a nomination to the Naval Academy or West Point. He would not have these opportunities if it had not been for wrestling and Coach John. If a child ever has the opportunity to be in Coach John’s presence or to be coached by him they will be truly blessed. If you want your child to grow up to be the man he should be wrestling and Coach John can make it happen.
Wow….Danita….that was a very nice post.
I must reply to this one in detail…..What a joy to read, what a blessing you have been, and what a great mother and team Mom you are.
I met Danita’s son Ethan, 7 yrs ago and I never heard him speak (it seemed like) for the first year. As time rolled on and he settled in to the wrestling program he came alive.
What a difference, and pleasant surprise. I took to Ethan and love him like he was one of my own boys. (Well he is one of my own boys, just not by blood…lol). He has been an inspiration and role model for many of our up and coming wrestlers. I truly believe he is a special young man. Anytime I need help, he is there. Anytime time I need support he is there. Each time he is there, I know I can count on him to get the task done. I am so happy and proud of him for all that he has done. I could go on and say so much about this fine young man and all of his accomplishments, but I’ll say it short…..He’s a God send and a shining light. I know that one day, he will be a successful and respected member of our community. I wish him all the success in the world and hate to see him move on….I only wish I had 100 more just like him.
As for his parents, they are just as special and hard working, and it’s not hard to see where he gets it from. His Mother, Danita has been the backbone of this program for years, working harder and shouldering more of her load than anyone can imagine. She has been involved in not just the program and it’s success but the lives of many of the young men and boys who are apart of it. She is the present HS team Mom, but actually has been a mother to all these boys in more ways than one. All that know her, know her work ethic, her discipline, her love and caring attitude towards each and every boy, parent and the entire program….
His Father, stands for all the above, and has to be the kindest, easiest going guy I have ever met. George is such a hard worker, and cares so much, it’s unbelievable This whole Henry family has been instrumental and the driving force behind the construction of our new wrestling building and we all know that if not for them, this building would not have been built. God has blessed this family for their hard work and love and we as a wrestling family owe them more than we could ever repay…….Thank you George, Danita, Ethan, and Heather for being apart of my life, and for making the sport of wrestling in this community what it is today . I love you all more than I can ever express……Now that was pretty mushy but well deserved…….lol
